Whaaaaat?  On my knees?  Are you kidding?  No, I’m not.  Think about it.  When you’re on your knees – in prayer – all kinds of things open up.  Your mind calms, your emotions are deeper, and God is present.  In that state, let’s talk about what else can happen.

  1. SPIRITUAL WARFARE.  The moment you START telling others you are going to write a book, the resistance begins.   Many in religious circles call it spiritual warfare.  The name or title of it is not as important as recognizing the effects or the impact this force has against someone who says they are going to write a book!  You can always measure the value of what you are going “TO” by the intensity of the resistance you must fight “THROUGH.”
  1. WORSHIP.  Writing is an act of worship.  You honor God and you tell of His worth in your life when you write.  When you look back over your past and the things God has done for you, putting those experiences on paper is an act of communing with the Holy One.
  1. WEALTH CREATION.  Writing is the first step in creating intellectual property.  I have told students and thought leaders all over the world this simple truth.  You cannot copyright an idea; it must be in writing.  But here’s the tricky part.  Most often, God gives us ideas and inspiration while we are in prayer that we like to call revelation knowledge.  Herein lies the wealth of those who pray and hear from God.  The next step is to always write it down.
  1. WONDERS OF GOD.  Writing reflects the works and wonders of God.  One of my favorite songs is He is a Wonder in My Soul.  When we pray and reflect on all that God has brought us through, we can’t help but wonder, “How in the world did that happen?!”
  1. WELCOME.  Prayer writing invites God into our struggles, secrets and shames, and we get to show Him our scars.  It’s not like He has not seen them.  Prayer writing opens us up to be more vulnerable, transparent and authentic.  When two people pray together, it takes on its own intimacy reconciling them to God no matter what their relationship is.  The beauty of welcoming God in is finding freedom on our knees in His presence.
